POINT OF VIEW
This UK government body needed to allow external parties to access data contained in their systems in a secure and highly controlled manner. They also needed to streamline their use of technology to deliver operational efficiencies.
By consolidating connectivity and automation onto the IBM product stack the breadth of skills was reduced, and the overall architecture moved toward becoming more consistent and predictable.
A bold move
The agency had used IBM software before, but not on the scale and focus that this initiative would demand.
The agency approached Responsiv Solutions to procure required software, and to provide design and development consultancy required to make the project a success
They needed access to specific developer knowledge and expertise to make this transition. The agency approached Responsiv Solutions to procure the required software, and to provide design and development consultancy required to make the project a success.
Redefining a technology environment
With this focus on saving time and money, we initially worked towards two objectives. First, replace our customer’s core underlying IT system; and second, develop a centralised application to manage case exceptions arising from paper-based correspondence.
During spring 2016, Responsiv developed a proof of concept set of APIs for one of the key applications.
To showcase the relevant capabilities of the IBM Software and provide confidence in the Responsiv ability to deliver – and to work with the government teams – we delivered a functional proof of concept (POC).
Controlling access to payment processing
The POC established an integration layer across its payment processing system, managed by an easy-to-use application.
All members of the team gained experience with delivering such projects in their specific environment, and how to get the best out of the available IT resources.
Next, we built and deployed a Business Process Management (BPM) and Operational Decision Management (ODM) platform supported with comprehensive employee training to enable our customer to maintain and configure its technology environment while continuing to build essential new services.
In subsequent years, Responsiv has continued to deliver focused IT training and innovation, including:
- Setting up a dedicated architecture practice responsible for creating relevant IT procedures, policies, and processes.
- Creating a dedicated technology design authority.
- Writing a specialist strategic technical document referencing our working model for educational purposes.
- Founding an integrated ‘centre of excellence’ for strategic services.
- Building an Application Programming Interface (API) roadmap bringing together processes, policies and templates.
- Conducting a digital transformation project, and moving IT operations to a common platform based on IBM technology.
A simpler, smoother technology ecosystem
Providing this comprehensive IT expertise across such a wide range of initiatives has yielded a number of benefits.
We have worked closely with the agency to simplify day-to-day technology management by improving solution efficiency and performance. The result is to save the business significant time and money. This has resulted in improved processes across the board: such as the smoother, faster management of application exceptions and integrated governance for all services.
Following the UK’s 2016 decision to leave the EU the was able to act quickly to address the strategic requirement to separate its own IT systems from those of the EU. The process automation already in place provided a template and foundation for implementing and communicating changes to processes that were as a result of the Brexit changes.
Responsiv has built a strong bridge between our customer’s business and IT functions. We recently signed a five-year deal to continue delivering the very best in cloud, integration and automation technologies based on the IBM stack.
Responsiv has skills, software, and connections to make a difference in any governmental agency or department
Responsiv works with government agencies and government departments to provide technology expertise, ask the silly questions, and provide insights that can accelerate any project.
Our consultants are not distracted by a “day job”, and have one mission: to deliver a quality result on-time, on-budget, on-quality. Every consultant has access to a deep network of skilled and experienced colleagues and to our Responsiv Assist service desk; allowing them to get answers quickly and efficiently.

Responsiv “Solution as a Service”
Responsiv Solution as a Service (R-SaaS) is a hosted service that delivers a solution customised to your needs.
R-SaaS can deliver a combination of one or more business use-cases as a service, for a predictable annual subscription. You avoid buying or renting a product to then build a solution. Instead, we build the solution, and you rent it for a minimum term. Responsiv take the delivery, operational, and hosting risks.
Use-cases can include any combination of business process automation, custom APIs, or APIs to provide connectivity to your data.
- We work with you to define each use-case and then we build the automation you need.
- You agree an onboarding fee and an annual subscription for the service. A minimum term applies.
- We host and manage the underlying platform. Removing the need for you to procure software, or to build or host the solution.
