Overview
Responsiv Unity is a modular Automation and Connectivity platform suitable for companies and departments of all sizes. We set out to deliver a platform that is simple to install and operate, cost effective to use, and that can be targeted to solve a specific problem, or used as a foundation for multiple solutions.
The value from automation – is the automation – not the infrastructure that supports it.
Use Responsiv Unity to deliver automation projects quickly and efficiently to any small part of your business, or to the business as a whole. Everything you need is in the box.
Synchronise information across systems in real-time, automate human activities and connect them to trusted sources of information to reduce human effort and improve consistency and scalability of your business. Expose automation to customers as self-service.
What’s in the Box?
The Responsiv Unity Process Module makes IBM Business Automation Workflow (IBM BAW, IBM DBA, IBM Business Process manager) available inside the Responsiv Unity platform. IBM BAW enables customers to design, build and run automation workflows. The Business Process Management (BPM) element of BAW provides comprehensive change management of business processes which results in continuous process improvement.
All companies have processes; however, the visibility of processes can be varied. BPM is a way to increase that visibility and hence give direction to the continued efficiency of the processes. Modules include system-connectivity, people-process, API-hosting and management, data repository, business rules, and of course monitoring and security.
Use process automation and business rules to maximise staff efficiency, deliver consistent customer service, avoid recruitment, and deliver self-service.
The Integration Module provides all the functionality of IBM App Connect Enterprise (IBM ACE, WebSphere Message Broker, IBM Integration Bus) within the Responsiv Unity platform. IBM ACE has a worldwide installed base across Banking, Retail, Manufacturing and many other industries, connecting systems of record within organisations and underpinning many digital transformation implementations.
The Integration Node supports a wide range of integration styles from traditional Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) to Modern Events, Application Programming Interfaces (API), and Microservices. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) and wide range of pre-built end-point connectors promotes rapid system to system integration and makes the Integration Node the single integration tool of choice for your entire business.
- Responsiv Unity helps you to connect your systems, people, and customers together.
- Connect systems to prevent mistakes and repeated manual tasks; share data across the enterprise and beyond.
- Extending the platform with Industry protocol and process support.
The Process Node can be seamlessly integrated into the Responsiv Unity Case Node, which utilises the same underlying IBM BAW software. By combining both capabilities into one workflow, the solution unites information, processes, and users to provide a 360-degree view of work.
The Responsiv Unity Rules Module is a comprehensive decision automation platform that helps you capture, analyse, automate and govern rules-based business decisions. In seconds, both IT and business-line leaders can authorise a permit, decide on a license fee or detect a cross-sell opportunity with high precision and customisation. The underlying IBM Operational Decision Manager provides a comprehensive decision management platform to effectively automate decision-making within and across business systems.
Scale your business in a consistent and controlled way to create opportunities for new products, new markets, and new levels of customer engagement, all without having to increase staffing.
Data can be validated at first contact before being tracked and shared across systems and people to assure a consistent, single view of customer, asset, transaction or anything else.
- Match costs and benefits
- Modular growth and scale
- Time to value faster
Responsiv understand that companies operate systems across multiple clouds, including cloud hosting and SaaS offerings. This creates new challenges for management and for system connectivity.
Responsiv Unity is designed to be deployed either into a single location, or across any number of clouds. It can also be connected to your SaaS systems, including
- SalesForce
- Zoho
- Xero
- and many others.
Responsiv Unity connects clouds carefully to prevent one location becoming a critical junction between clouds, and being sure to prevent administrators or malicious users from accessing across clouds.
The Responsiv Unity cloud bridge blueprint creates an all to all connection between your clouds, without bridging networks, and minimising firewall openings. It also provides the ability to optimise data movements between clouds.
Use the Responsiv Unity cloud bridge blueprint as the foundation for optimising data movements and controlling where workloads execute.
Assures that networks are not bridged; preventing administrators on one cloud from accessing another.
The result is that applications can connect and communicate wherever they reside.
Responsiv Unity to connect clouds assures that networks are not bridged; preventing administrators on one cloud from accessing another.
Responsiv Unity is designed to support self-hosted and Responsiv hosted installations.
Responsiv Unity can be procured “as a service”, meaning that Responsiv provide you with a cloud based service that you can connect into your own infrastructure. In this case we manage hosting, patching, and monitoring. For some deployments you will want to deploy parts, or all of your Responsiv Unity platform into your own data centres or cloud providers. We call this “self-hosting”.
Responsiv Unity can be purchased and installed on many different cloud hosting platforms, including Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Azure, and AWS. You can also deploy onto bare metal or virtualisation platform. We can provide support and confirm whether your hosting platform is suitable.
Responsiv Unity is built to operate on Intel and AMD cores, and we assume that all cores are equal. This allows you to be confident that whatever hardware upgrades you perform, or hardware that your cloud provider uses, you can simply count the cores.
Licensing for Responsiv Unity is very flexible, however, when you are licensed by the core, we count all cores that the software can access and potentially use. This peak capacity is independent of the actual capacity being utilised. Most of the time this is a good way to control capacity, however on occasions it is not cost effective. For these occasions we can agree custom licenses that control usage by instance, concurrent and named users, transaction volumes and many other metrics.
Responsiv Unity can be procured “as a service”, meaning that Responsiv provide you with a cloud based service that you can connect into your own infrastructure. In this case we manage hosting, patching, and monitoring and you connect to the service using an appropriate protocol or VPN arrangement.
The benefit of purchasing Responsiv Unity as a service is that you do not require any administrative skills, do not need to procure or install hardware, and we take responsibility for efficient and timely provisioning of the service to your project.
With Responsiv Unity as a Service you can purchase additional modules and extenders at any time, and can request “Custom Modules” to extend your platform to include features that are unique to your needs. For example, you may need to integrate with an AI for document processing, or a social care package. In either case Responsiv can discuss and see whether it is possible and appropriate to create a customer Responsiv Unity module to satisfy your need.

Quality Assurance
Responsiv Unity DevOps
The development process builds and assembles components into releasable units, collectively known as modules that take the form of nodes (complete runtime, including operating system), and extenders (do not include an operating system, extend the functionality of a node, or allow an external thing to connect into the Responsiv Unity platform).
Development is complete when the Responsiv Assist team accept the code into our Asset Distribution System (ADS). Their acceptance means that they have taken responsibility for support. Operations begins when a consumer (our customers, Responsiv Cloud, or a partner) downloads and installs the module from our Asset System (ADS).
Patch Management
Responsiv deliver patches through the same ADS as the base installation.
Your entitlement allows access to patches and new versions of the software for as long as you have an active subscription for those things.
Patches are applied through the Responsiv Unity Console, which also keeps track of the patch levels, and simplifies downloading them from the Responsiv Asset Distribution System.
Support
All Responsiv Unity software products are supported in the event of a software failure. The basic support that comes with your subscription includes supporting you in the event of a manufacturing fault with the software.
You can extend support to include incident recovery and developer/ administration support with various Responsiv Assist products. Responsiv Unity extended support can be added to your subscription to allow Responsiv to actively monitor your installation and provide a managed service.
Scales with your business
Responsiv Unity can grow to meet demand one core at a time, or if you prefer a block of users, transactions, or based on a custom agreement. It can extend by adding modules to add functions, for example integration, process automation, case management, API hosting and management.
You may purchase Responsiv Unity in several different formats. If you are happy to host, subscription or perpetual allow you to control all aspects of the installation in your own datacentre or on your preferred cloud (Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud or AWS). If you prefer to leave it to us you can purchase Responsiv Unity in the form of Platform as a Service or Solution as a Service.
Responsiv Unity Modules are delivered as “nodes”
Responsiv Unity modules are delivered as Nodes or Extenders depending on the way they are installed and used. All Responsiv Unity modules, documentation, patches, and extenders are downloadable using your letter of entitlement (LOE) as access. The same letter is used to gain access to support from your Responsiv Assist contract.
It’s all in the box!
Each Responsiv Unity node contains a “content module”, which is the bit that gives the node its name (Process, Integration, Rules, API, etc), and a “base module”, which is the important plumbing that looks after the content. The “Base Node Module” contains an operating system, monitoring agents, deployment support, and other features that you will otherwise be building for yourself or buying extra.
Many of the modules can be extended with snap-in modules that add functionality to an existing module, for example to provide access (remote extenders), or to add use-case patterns to the Integration module, or template processes for a Process module (see our solutions page for ideas). Responsiv Unity Nodes can be installed onto bare metal servers, bare VMWare containers, or cloud platforms from an ISO file.
