Platform as a Service (PaaS)

Increase control and flexibility with a platform that can be adapted to your changing needs

Responsiv offer a number of pre-defined platforms that can be used to host your own automation, connectivity, rules, and custom solutions. The Platform as a Service (PaaS) approach is a great way to accelerate your own development.

Responsiv Unity can be purchased as component parts and deployed on your own cloud platform or internal hosting. Alternatively the same software is available in the form of a platform that is pre-installed and configured to be ready to have your automation, connectivity, rules, or APIs deployed. Each platform is provided with a small test facility, and is of course fully supported through our UK based service desk.

Each platform is deployed to the Responsiv Cloud infrastructure and can be accessed through any of the supported cloud connect protocols. Each platform is provided with a production and test/development environment.

Use PaaS to support a large project, department, or enterprise initiatives.

The basic platform is configured with a standard capacity. You can add capacity at any time using additional modules or capacity units.

Automation Platform

Everything you need to develop and use Business processes across your enterprise. Use the API platform to expose processes to external parties.

Connectivity Platform

Connect your internal systems to share data in real time. Transform and share information to deliver efficiencies and improved data use and accuracy across the company. Combine with the API platform to extend the value outside your organisation in a secure and controlled way.

Decision Platform

Everything you need to develop and deploy sets of rules that can be used to make consistent decisions across your enterprise and beyond. Each decision can be called using an API after presenting a username and password. Combine with the API platform to extend the security options and the reach of your decisions.

API Platform

Everything you need to expose APIs to internal and external audiences, support your developers, and control the way your resources are used by different user-groups. Create a sandbox to support external developer use of your APIs. Combine this platform with any of the others to protect and make available systems and data to external parties.

Responsiv Cloud Services

Cloud Connectivity

Connectivity and the volume of data that will egress your solution are key decision points when we consider how and where your solution will be hosted. Responsiv can provide MPLS and specialised private connectivity options alongside VPN over Internet connections.

Connect internal users through a dedicated connection directly to your own networks.

Connect users over the public internet.

Connect APIs to your systems over a network that cannot be accessed by your internal users.

Separate access for administrative tasks to improve security.

Responsiv Cloud for Healthcare

Healthcare has particular standards and requirements for where they store and process medial and management information. The UK National Healthcare Service (NHS) often require that systems connected to their network are certified to join the N3 and Health and Social Care Networks (N3/HSCN). The N3 HSCN network connects all NHSD organisations and more than a million NHS employees in England.

Code of Connection Approved (3rd party N3 hosting provider)

Through our hosting partner Responsiv can offer access and direct connection to the N3 network, which is the IP network that provides NHS organisations with high availability and high bandwidth network services.

The N3 network is essential for facilitating programmes like the NHS Care Records Service and the Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions. 4D is an accredited N3 PoP and we have been providing secure hosting for connected N3 systems for several years. 4D work with several aggregators as well as the N3 Service Desk directly to ensure that clients have access to reliable, secure, high-bandwidth N3 connections which allow you to improve the way your systems connect into NHS organisations.

For 4D to maintain their N3 status they go through a regular auditing process as well as maintaining the following accreditations and certifications:

  • External penetration testing of the network, appropriate hosting and management systems
  • Internal penetration testing of the network, hosting and management systems
  • Audits are conducted over several days by a certified CHECK or CREST penetration tester.

Responsiv Cloud for Government

The PSN is a UK government funded programme that provides a single, secure communications network where public sector services spanning defence, emergency services, education, healthcare, and both local and central government can access a wide variety of data and services from a single source.

Organisations that require access to the PSN must comply with the strict security regulations in place and become accredited to work within the network at any level.

Public Services Network (PSN)

The Public Services Network (PSN) certification is a set of controls that must be met by any organisation which needs to connect to the PSN network in the UK.

The 4D data centres currently hold a PSN Connection Compliance Certificate, which allows networks to be connected to the PSN to send and receive data – this requires the following audits on an annual basis:

  • External penetration testing of the network, appropriate hosting and management systems
  • Internal penetration testing of the network, hosting and management systems
  • Audits are conducted over several days by a certified CHECK or CREST penetration tester.

There are two further types of PSN certification that clients who wish to provide services to public sector organisations may be required to achieve. Which level is required will depend on the type of services to be supplied: PSN Service Provision Compliance Certification:

  • Allows you to provide services or applications over the PSN-to-PSN customers.
  • PSN Connectivity Service Compliance Certification: Allows you to provide a component, product or service which enables PSN-connected organisations to obtain intra- and inter-organisation IP data transmission.
  • PSN certification can give you a competitive advantage especially if you have products or services designed to be supplied into public sector organisations.

Responsiv Cloud for Financial Services

If you are storing, transmitting or processing any credit cardholder data, then you need to utilise a data centre that meets the requirements of PCI-DSS compliance.

All of 4D’s data centres are PCI compliant ensuring we can provide the physical, environmental, network and infrastructure security you need to protect sensitive cardholder data and meet PCI DSS compliance standards.

There will still be a requirement to ensure your systems and applications meet the standards of PCI-DSS but hosting these within a compliance data centre will make the process easier and ensure that the physical, environmental, network and infrastructure security elements are already taken care of.

PCI-compliance physical security

Our physical security processes ensure that only your authorised personnel have access to your private locked racks and cages. Access to the data centre is only from pre-notified, authorised contact lists. Government issued photographic ID and biometric identification from those on the lists is required to gain access to the facilities, and proximity access cards are issued on a zoned basis to ensure access is only granted to permitted areas. We maintain environmental control with 24/7 monitoring, logged surveillance, and multiple alarm systems to alert us to any disruptions.

PCI-compliant network infrastructure

Sensitive infrastructure, such as managed dedicated servers, cloud servers, power and network infrastructure are also protected by controlled access. We operate redundant routers, switches, and paired universal threat management devices to meet PCI compliance requirements for protecting sensitive information on our network.

Hosting Partners

Responsiv Cloud Services

Responsiv provide our hosted managed services from 4D UK data centres based across the south of England. Each location is accredited and can provide dedicated connections to the Public Services Network (PSN) and have PCI compliance. Our Hosted managed Services include all hosting and management costs for planned data use. Additional charges may be levied for unplanned storage or network capacity.

High-availability infrastructure

To ensure uninterrupted availability of your hosted systems, our fully redundant network and power infrastructure are built for automatic failover, guaranteeing your critical data and applications are always accessible. The 4D Surrey and Gatwick data centres are linked with our own dedicated fibre network with multiple 10 Gbps of bandwidth available and fully diverse routing from each facility- this provides an ideal infrastructure for data backup and disaster recovery plans, meaning your cardholder data will be recoverable even in the event of a disaster.

Responsiv Cloud is regulated and controlled

ISO27001 is the leading certification for supporting information security requiring annual audits of information security management systems, physical data centre security and internal processes.

ISO27001 helps to ensure that:

  • Risks and threats to information security are properly assessed and managed
  • Physical security processes are properly implemented and enforced
  • Audits are regularly conducted including tests of security, incident management, business continuity and security monitoring

By holding the ISO27001 certification it demonstrates compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements for security, privacy, incident reporting and IT governance.

Connectivity Options

As with all clouds we provide network connectivity to the public Internet in a way that is accessible to service users who have the right security clearance. This connectivity is generally configured to access a website or API gateway and is secured using TLS/SSL and OAuth2 for mutual authentication.

General access from your own networks can be configured using one or more Virtual Private Networks (VPN) that creates an encrypted tunnel across the public internet.

Custom arrangements

Responsiv can provide connectivity using other protocols and security standards. For example, we can connect your internal systems using an IBM MQ Cluster or using our Responsiv Unity Cloud Bridge pattern to deliver throughput or fault tolerance that can match your internal arrangements.

Data Overage Charges

In brief this means that we sample bandwidth throughput (Mbps) every 5 mins, at the end of the month these samples are sorted from highest to lowest. The top 5% (roughly 36 hours) are disregarded, the next highest sample is the level the service is billed against. This allows you to keep your commit low and still get the benefit of high bursts on the 1Gbps feeds. Our standard deployment is two resilient 1Gbps feeds, with a committed data rate of 50Mbps.

Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)

Increase productivity with first-class connectivity, including Business Broadband (Business Fibre, FTTC, EFM and ADSL) and Ethernet Networks (MPLS, point to point, point to multipoint).

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a routing technique that directs data from one node to the next based on short path labels rather than long network addresses. The technique avoids complex lookups in a routing table and speeding traffic flows. Labels identify virtual links (paths) between distant nodes rather than endpoints. MPLS can encapsulate packets of various network protocols, hence the “multiprotocol” reference on its name. MPLS supports a range of access technologies, including T1/E1, ATM, Frame Relay, and DSL.

High Speed, Multi-Site, Data Connectivity

A complete MPLS WAN Private Data Network solution delivering flexible, secure, and centrally managed inter-site connectivity. Connecting into a resilient multi-core network, managed centrally, MPLS WAN private data networks bring the benefits of simplicity, control, and significant cost savings for your business.

As the data circuits connect into a central ‘cloud’ rather than to a specific site, the network is more flexible & resilient than using site-to-site leased lines or VPNs, which can require expensive routers and configuration.

Our MPLS private data network can also provide ‘on-net’ access to your data centres, Responsiv Cloud, and the public Internet.

Microsoft Azure

We use Azure to host custom services that will be part of a larger Microsoft ecosystem, or that have been purchased from the Microsoft Marketplace. These services are fully managed by Responsiv and provided as a Service to you.

Our Azure services are often available as self-hosted solutions to allow you to incorporate them into your own Microsoft hosting agreements, and position them into your environment appropriately.

Azure hosting is available across the world, however for most of our UK customers the UK hosting locations are used to accommodate GDPR and other regulatory needs.

IBM Cloud

Responsiv Cloud uses the IBM cloud platform for hosting large scale projects, and those that require international deployment. For example, if you have a cloud system that will be used in multiple different geographies, we can deploy the software locally to where it will be used and move data internally to the cloud to manage security, performance, and cost.
