The government agency wanted to grant external parties with secure and controlled access to their information, and to deliver streamlined processes and technology use. By consolidating connectivity and automation onto the IBM product stack the breadth of skills is reduced, and the overall architecture becomes more consistent and predictable.

The objective, to save time and money, was achieved.

Products relevant to this reference include IBM Integration, IBM Automation, Responsiv Unity, IBM DataPower, IBM Application Connect Enterprise (ACE), OpenShift, WebSphere, IBM MQ, IBM API Connect, IBM Business Process Manager, IBM Digital Business Automation (DBA), IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW), IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM).

Meeting the challenge to consolidate information

The government agency required access to specific design and development knowledge and expertise to make the transition. They approached Responsiv to help them to deliver the project to deliver the streamlined processes, based upon our track record of creating services to support IBM integration and automation projects.

They needed access to specific developer knowledge and expertise to make this transition. The agency approached Responsiv Solutions to procure the required software, and to provide design and development consultancy required to make the project a success.

Developing Streamlined Processes

With this focus on saving time and money, we initially worked towards two objectives. First, to replace our customer’s core underlying IT system; and second, to develop a new centralised application to manage case exceptions arising from paper-based correspondence. The ultimate objective being streamlined processes, to drive time and cost reductions.

During spring 2016, Responsiv developed a proof-of-concept (POC) application server interface for one of the government body’s key applications. We created an integration layer across its payment processing system, managed by an easy-to-use application. This showcased the full capabilities of their newly purchased IBM product suite, and demonstrated how streamlined processes can be developed. It provided opportunities to learn and mentor on how to get the best out of the IT resources available.

Enterprise Automation

Next, we built and deployed a Business Process Management (BPM) and Operational Decision Management (ODM) platform supported with comprehensive employee training to enable our customer to maintain and configure its technology environment while continuing to build essential new streamlined processes and services.

A simpler, smoother technology ecosystem

Providing this comprehensive IT expertise across such a wide range of initiatives has yielded a number of benefits.

Responsiv has helped our customer to achieve greatly simplified day-to-day technology management by improving solution efficiency and performance.

The result has saved the business significant time and money. It has also improved the quality of life for staff through improved processes across the board: such as the smoother, faster management of application exceptions and integrated governance for all services.

Brexit readiness

Following the UK’s 2016 decision to leave the EU the was able to act quickly to address the strategic requirement to separate its own IT systems from those of the EU. The process automation already in place provided a template and foundation for implementing and communicating changes to processes that were as a result of the Brexit changes.
